The Legendary Pazham Pori & Beef of Kochi

Located on Mini Bypass Tripunithura Road in Poonithura, Sree Muruga Cafe is a beloved local eatery that has been serving authentic Keralan flavours since the mid-1980s. This is not a place for fancy decor; it's a simple, no-frills restaurant where the focus is squarely on the food. It's known for being a go-to spot for a quick and hearty meal at reasonable prices, though it can get crowded during peak hours.

What to Eat

The star of the show at Sree Muruga Cafe is undoubtedly its unique and famous breakfast combination: Pazham Pori with Beef Curry. This dish, featuring sweet banana fritters paired with a savory beef curry, is a culinary experience that draws locals and visitors alike and is a must-try. Other highly recommended dishes include the crispy Uzhunnu Vada, soft Appam (both often paired with their flavourful beef curry), crispy dosa, and strong filter coffee. While they offer a wide menu including biryani and various chicken dishes, it's these traditional breakfast items that have cemented their reputation.

Experience

The ambiance at Sree Muruga Cafe is described as calm and welcoming, though the seating can be cramped. Service is generally quick, typical of a local breakfast spot. While the restaurant is kept neat and clean, the experience is more about the authentic and flavourful food than the setting. Parking can be a challenge, with limited space available, especially during busy times.
